Hi Everyone, Well the first evaluation with Michael Freund was completed at Black Prong last week. It was a very positive experience for all involved. Michael drove all the ponies and horses the first day to get a feel of what is needed in their training . The second day we all drove our own animals in an hour lesson with Michael, then on the weekend we did dressage and cones and three hazards. The training was demanding for all of us as it was quite early in the season but Michael was well aware of that and tried to accommodate the drivers. He judged each dressage test, timed each cones round and then timed and watched every hazard run. I think the only one that was more tired than the animals was Michael !!. Most of us then shipped over to Sunshine States to do the first event of the season. Michael continued all of our training making it very clear to come to him with any questions.
Hi Everyone,

Well the first evaluation with Michael Freund was completed at Black Prong last week.

He watched most of our dressage, had a cones training day on Friday and a follow up meeting. Marathon day Michael took notes ,which he reviewed with us when we asked him for feedback. Michael did our split times for us in the cones and expected us to keep to them not too fast not too slow. I have to say it was the first time in the 30 yrs. of competing that I feel we have a program developing and a coach to implement the plan for the future.I would encourage any pony driver to come out and watch the training even if you are not involved this year, Michael’s knowledge is invaluable and can only help us all.

The pony selection procedure as you all know was approved by the HP committee in June but was put on hold until after the WEG, now it is back on the priority list, the only changes are the deadline for applications will be changed to either March 1st or April 1st (plenty of notice will be given to help avoid late fees) and also anyone sending in an application must submit ALL forms or the application will not be considered complete. The pony selectors have been chosen and are getting organized to start the selection process.

I hope everyone that can will attend the Salute to driving in Aiken this month, it sounds like it is going to be a wonderful event.

We had a pony open forum at Sunshine States and will have another one at Live Oak. If anyone has anything they would like addressed please send me an email and it will be brought up to the pony committee. Any questions about the selection procedure please send an email to Lizzy Staller estaller@usef.org director of driving at the USEF. Please don’t forget we have pony team USA merchandise for sale at all the events, Katie

The Driver Training Long List is established by the USEF on the basis of a driver/horse/pony combination achieving a total of 175 penalties or less for singles and pairs, and a total of 200 penalties or less for four-in-hands in a national competition at the advanced level in the U.S.; a European CAI; or a national European competition (for which the Driving High Performance Committee has given approval). This qualifying score must have been achieved in any of the previous two calendar years which indicates that those driver/horse/pony combinations are the strongest candidates for future teams. Long Listed driver/horse/pony combinations are eligible for USEF Training Programs and consideration to compete abroad.
